Lighthouse 5k Race Series Summer 2020

Lace up your running shoes and see the sights. Add the fun of a run and fitness to your vacation joining us for a Summer morning 5k run/walk through the Historic Village of Corolla Light. Enjoy the sights of the Northern Outer Banks. The WhaleHead Club, Corolla Light and the magnificent Currituck Beach Lighthouse are all along the course.
Unique finisher medals and t-shirts to all participants. Enjoy a post- race cold continental breakfast and refreshments at the Finish line. Race Start/Finish in front of the Historic Mansion at The Whalehead Club in Corolla. Awards for the Top 3 Male/Female overall, the 1st place Masters M/F (over 40) and the 1st place Youth M/F (under 14).
Early Registration and Packet Pick-up: Tuesday’s 10am - 12pm at The Brindley Beach Vacation Offices 1023 Ocean Trail, ​Corolla, NC 27927 across from the Corolla Light Rec Center.
On-site registration is always available at Packet Pick-up Tuesday’s, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm the day before your race, AND on site Race Day from 6:30am-7:50am at the Start/Finish Line

Mustang Mornings Open House
Wednesday, July 1st, 2020, 10am to 2pm at 102 Young Rider Lane, Grandy, NC
Join us Wednesdays this summer for Mustang Mornings at the Farm. Beginning July 1, the Betsy Dowdy Equine Center will be open to the public from 10am – 2pm. Visit the farm, located on the mainland in Grandy, and meet the rescued Corolla horses currently in our care. We hope to meet many of our members, and we invite all prospective members to visit too! There is a suggested donation of $10 per car at the gate.
CWHF shirts, hats, and other gifts will be available for purchase. You can also sponsor any of the rescue horses. Sponsorship includes a photo and certificate, as well as quarterly updates on your sponsored horse.
THINGS TO KNOW:
·Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
· No outside food permitted.
· Please do not bring apples, carrots, or other treats for the horses.
· No outside dogs permitted. Dogs may not be left unattended in vehicles. Service dogs welcome, but must be leashed and under control at all times.
· CWHF reserves the right to ask any person or persons to leave the property at any time.
· Max speed limit is 5mph at all times.
· Check event page or call before attending, in case of last minute cancellation. Event is rain or shine, but farm will be closed in the case of lightning or other dangerous weather. Farm may close in the event of certain emergencies or other issues with the horses.
· Gates close twenty minutes prior to the end of the event.
· Remember, this is a working farm! There are mud puddles, flying insects, and animals that poop. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. There is a bathroom on site, but facilities in general are limited.
· We are unfortunately unable to accommodate visitors at any other times. The farm is closed to the public outside of open house hours.
Corolla Cork & Craft

Starting July 1-September 9th, every Wednesday, from 4pm-8pm join us as we present local wine & beer tastings in the breathtaking and peaceful setting of Historic Corolla Park. Enjoy live, fun music from different decades every Wednesday evening from July 1st -September 9th. With a General Admission ticket you will receive a souvenir wine glass, a free tour of Historic Whalehead, and samples of featured local wines from Sanctuary Vineyards and beer from the Weeping Radish Brewery, the oldest microbrewery in North Carolina…. (Please bring a photo ID if you are interested in purchasing a ticket). beer and wine vendors are subject to change

Legends, Lore and Ghost Tours
Wednesday, July 1st, 2020, 7pm to 8pm at Historic Whalehead Club
Legends, Lore and Ghost Tours occur Wednesdays at 7 pm, beginning June 17th. Tours are $15.00 per person, and there are no refunds. Tours last about an hour and are not recommended for children under ten. Advance reservations are recommended, and can be made by calling (252) 453-9040 or visiting 1100 Club Road Corolla, NC 27927.
Yoga in the Park
Thursday, July 2nd, 2020, 7:30am to 8:30am at Whalehead Club - 100 Club Rd, Corolla, NC
******Classes are limited to 24 Yogis until further notice.
 
Join us at Whalehead in Historic Corolla Park for an All Levels, 60 minute Yoga class with Jennifer Spore. Whether you need a good long stretch after being in the car or a chance to escape the craziness, this class has just what you need. Every session includes guided meditation to re-center you, breath work to calm you and a series of seated and standing postures to make you feel like your best self.
Classes are held outside in front of Whalehead overlooking the sound on Thursday mornings at 7:30 am, June 4th – September 3rd. This is a FREE class. Please bring a yoga mat, beach towel or tapestry, plenty of water and sun protection. In the event of rain or inclement weather, classes will be canceled. Please follow the CurrituckOBXevents Facebook page for cancellations. Cancellations will be made by 7:00 AM. **Must be 13 years or older and accompanied by an adult to participate.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY IN Historic Corolla Park, COROLLA, NC — Friday, July 3rd, 2020
We are excited to announce that we will live stream this year’s fireworks display on Friday July 3rd.  Links will be provided soon.  There will be no vendors or activities in the park this year.  The Island where Whalehead is situated will be closed and there will only be limited access to parking in the park for our fireworks display which will begin at dusk.  Call 252-435-2947 for additional information.
Note: No coolers, alcohol or on-street parking permitted. Historic Corolla Park boat ramp is closed; no docking on July 3rd.. Dogs are permitted on leashes.

Virtual Education Program: Photo Identification

Photo Identification is a mark-recapture technique used by biologists in lots of different fields. Learn about different photo identification projects and then practice identifying dolphin dorsal fins just like the biologists from the Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research.

Take flight where flight first began with Kitty Hawk Kites and the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Enjoy a walk on the hallowed grounds where Wilbur and Orville took their historic first flight in 1903, then come join us for some fun flight of your own.
 
Large 30 – 100 foot kites will be flying high on display. We invite you to come fly kites of your own, take FREE stunt and power kite flying lessons, and bring the kiddos on over to our kite making station.
 
Admission to the park is $10, but participation in the kite festival is totally FREE!

ecoEXPLORE Skills Session - Turtle Tracking

Join us at Whalehead in Historic Corolla Park for an All Levels, 60 minute Yoga class with Jennifer Spore. Whether you need a good long stretch after being in the car or a chance to escape the craziness, this class has just what you need. Every session includes guided meditation to re-center you, breath work to calm you and a series of seated and standing postures to make you feel like your best self.
Classes are held outside in front of Whalehead overlooking the sound on Thursday mornings at 7:30 am, June 4th – September 3rd. This is a FREE class. Please bring a yoga mat, beach towel or tapestry, plenty of water and sun protection. In the event of rain or inclement weather, classes will be canceled. Please follow the CurrituckOBXevents Facebook page for cancellations. Cancellations will be made by 7:00 AM. **Must be 13 years or older and accompanied by an adult to participate.

Photo Identification

Photo Identification is a mark-recapture technique used by biologists in lots of different fields. Learn about different photo identification projects and then practice identifying dolphin dorsal fins just like the biologists from the Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research.

Mustang Mornings
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2020, 10am to 2pm at 102 Young Rider Lane, Grandy, NC
Join us Wednesdays this summer for Mustang Mornings at the Farm. Beginning July 1, the Betsy Dowdy Equine Center will be open to the public from 10am – 2pm. Visit the farm, located on the mainland in Grandy, and meet the rescued Corolla horses currently in our care. We hope to meet many of our members, and we invite all prospective members to visit too! There is a suggested donation of $10 per car at the gate.
CWHF shirts, hats, and other gifts will be available for purchase. You can also sponsor any of the rescue horses. Sponsorship includes a photo and certificate, as well as quarterly updates on your sponsored horse.
THINGS TO KNOW:
·Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
· No outside food permitted.
· Please do not bring apples, carrots, or other treats for the horses.
· No outside dogs permitted. Dogs may not be left unattended in vehicles. Service dogs welcome, but must be leashed and under control at all times.
· CWHF reserves the right to ask any person or persons to leave the property at any time.
· Max speed limit is 5mph at all times.
· Check event page or call before attending, in case of last minute cancellation. Event is rain or shine, but farm will be closed in the case of lightning or other dangerous weather. Farm may close in the event of certain emergencies or other issues with the horses.
· Gates close twenty minutes prior to the end of the event.
· Remember, this is a working farm! There are mud puddles, flying insects, and animals that poop. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. There is a bathroom on site, but facilities in general are limited.
· We are unfortunately unable to accommodate visitors at any other times. The farm is closed to the public outside of open house hours.
